FULL SIDRA SEASON

Fresh apples · Working presses · Shared tables

You’ll arrive at the height of sidra season, when just-picked apples are milled and pressed. This is not a quiet cider house; it is the process in motion. Recognised by UNESCO in 2024 as Intangible Cultural Heritage, Asturian cider is more than a drink. It is a way of gathering, sharing, and celebrating that has shaped the region since the Middle Ages.

THE TIME TO TRAVEL SLOWLY

Atlantic light · Autumn harvest · A week in Asturias

October is when Asturias finds its slower rhythm: cider fresh off the press, chestnut woods heavy with fruit, and the summer rush already gone. The Cantabrian Sea shifts with the light; fishing villages sit on green hillsides, cows graze above the cliffs, and wood smoke drifts through the air. Spend a week walking, tasting, and meeting the people who make this place what it is.

Day 01Welcome

You’re already in Asturias; you can arrive by plane, train, or bus… we’ll wait for you until the afternoon light begins to fade. A short drive to Muros del Nalón, to a guesthouse right where the river meets the sea. A drink in hand as evening falls. Dinner, and the first stories of the week ahead. Meals included: Welcome toast, dinner

Fishing boats in a coastal harbour in Asturias, Spain.

Day 02Luarca

The morning gets off to a slow start, with coffee and a brief lesson on the expressions and customs you’ll need this week to communicate with the Asturians. Afterward, we’ll visit the neighboring town of Somao, a colonial town frozen in time, which we’ll explore with a local guide. In Cudillero, perched high and gleaming above its harbor, we’ll enjoy vermouth hour on the terrace, lunch, and a stroll through streets too narrow forcars. As dusk falls, we’ll head toward the Nalón River and make our way to San Esteban de Pravia. We’ll enjoy dinner by the estuary. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Historic ornate building surrounded by trees in Somao, Asturias.

Day 03Cabrales

Heading into the mountains, all the way to Asiego. A cheesemaker will welcome you into her workshop and take you to the cave where her cheese ages; the aroma reaches you before your eyes adjust to the darkness. Lunch at the village bar—we’ll blend right in. After this intense experience, we’ll stop in Las Caldas—you deserve an afternoon at the spa. Dinner wraps up the day; it will be hearty but unhurried. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 04The Luarca Coast

First, a wild, lush garden overlooking the sea, which we’ll explore at a leisurely pace with its foremost expert. Afterward, we’ll stroll to the port of Luarca, where it’ll be time for vermouth—and I highly recommend you don’t miss it. We’ll enjoy a meal with a taste of the sea, followed by a tour of the town that ends at the fish market, where the morning’s catch still glistens on the ice. There, we’ll discover what life is like for the men of the sea. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Small fishing boat in a harbour on the Luarca coast in Asturias.

Day 05Clay and Cider

A morning with your hands in the clay—a master class led by a ceramic artist. We’ll set aside the afternoon for cider, heading to the cider mill. We’ll stop for a bite to eat at a picnic area among the apple orchards, and later you’ll pour your own cider. Asturian cider culture has been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, so raise your bottle, lower your glass, and let a thin stream of cider trap air as it falls—pure Asturian tradition. Free afternoon in Gijón to wander through the city and wrap up with dinner on the pier, savoring the city’s most traditional dishes. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 06Avilés

A Full Table A guided tour of Avilés’s historic district, its farmers’ market, and the striking landscape created by Oscar Niemeyer, who designed the contemporary art center located on the Avilés estuary. A vermouth in the old town and a meal full of contrasts. Back at the hotel, a short nap just before the group’s final dinner. This time, we’ll be the hosts. A select group of locals with ties to art and gastronomy will join us at our table, invited to become part of our memories. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 07Farewell

One last breakfast with views of the Nalón River. And then, it’s time to say goodbye. Meals included: Breakfast
